Perth Amboy, NJ Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 414-8.12, added 2-26-2025 by Ord. No. 2217-2025, sets the driveway-apron rule in the Perth Amboy traffic chapter. It is unlawful for any vehicle to park within 16 inches on each side of the driveway to any residential or commercial property. Where no curb exists the 16 inches is measured from the extreme limit of the driveway where it meets the pavement of the public right-of-way; where a curb exists, from the point at which the depressed curb returns to full height. Parking in that area is permitted when the vehicle and driveway are owned by the same person, the vehicle belongs to a member of the same household, or the driveway owner authorizes it, and only where the parking is not otherwise prohibited and would not interfere with the normal flow of traffic. The affected property owner must initiate the complaint.

Section 414-8.11, added 8-14-2024 by Ord. No. 2179-2024, is the companion rule for parking directly in front of a private driveway. It is permitted when the vehicle and driveway share an owner, the vehicle belongs to a member of the same household, or the owner authorizes it, provided the parking does not contravene N.J.S.A. 39:4-138 et seq.

The rest of Article II works through schedules. Section 414-4 bars parking at any time on Schedule I streets, § 414-5 bars it during Schedule II hours except Sundays and public holidays, and § 414-7 sets Schedule IV time limits. Section 414-13 says no vehicle is to park within 25 feet of a stop sign, marked by yellow painted curb, and the Chief Law Enforcement Officer can increase that to 50 feet for public safety. Section 414-8.4 bars parking on a street for the purpose of sale. The Jefferson Street Library lot is limited to two-hour parking from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday under § 414-8.8, enforced by the Police Department or the Parking Authority.
