Perth Amboy, NJ Parking Rules: Snow Removal Parking Rules (2026)

Section 414-8 of the Perth Amboy traffic chapter controls parking during a snow emergency. Under subsection A, whenever snow has fallen and the accumulation covers the street or highway, no vehicle can be parked on the main traveled or major roadways in Schedule V (§ 414-35). Schedule V itself says an emergency exists once snow covers the street. Amboy Avenue on both sides between New Brunswick Avenue and the north City limits is on the list, as is the north side of Brace Avenue between Amboy Avenue and Florida Grove Road. Boggs Street, west side, from Alpine Street South to the dead end was added 9-10-2014 by Ord. No. 1737-2014, and Brighton Avenue was deleted 4-26-2017 by Ord. No. 1842-2017.

Subsection B keeps the prohibition alive after the snow stops, until the streets have been plowed sufficiently that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic. Subsection C authorizes the Director of Police or, in his absence, the ranking police officer to declare an emergency and direct emergency no-parking signs when weather conditions, accidents, fires, construction, street cleaning, public celebrations or other conditions require it. Notice goes to the operator or owner of any vehicle already parked before the signs go up. Subsection D treats an unoccupied vehicle in violation as a nuisance, lets any peace officer provide for its removal, and makes the owner pay the reasonable removal and storage costs before getting it back. Subsection E makes the section effective only where signs are erected as required by law.

Street cleaning is a separate rule. Section 414-8.2 bars parking during the hours in Schedule XXI (§ 414-51) on any day except Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Brighton Avenue east side is listed for 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Monday and the west side for the same hours Tuesday, from Market Street to Sadowski Parkway.
