Berwyn, IL Soliciting & Door-to-Door: No-Knock Registry (2026)

Section 860.04 of the Berwyn Code of Ordinances gives residents and businesses two ways to shut the door on uninvited sales calls. Under division (A), no one may peddle or solicit on private property after the owner or occupant asks them to leave. Under division (B), no one may peddle or solicit at a residence or business that is posted with a notice printed with the legend "NO SOLICITORS OR PEDDLERS." The protection works through a posted sign rather than a sign-up list.

A property counts as posted when a sign at least one and one-half inches by four inches, with letters at least one-third the height, is exhibited on or near the main entrance to the property or on or near the main door of any structure on it. The City Collector's office sells complying signs at cost to anyone who requests one, so a resident does not need to design their own.

Hours are set in division (E). Commercial solicitation and peddling are barred before 9:00 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, and at any time on Sunday or on a state or national holiday. Fund soliciting is barred before 9:00 a.m. and after 7:00 p.m., with no Sunday carve-out in that division.

The same section adds conduct rules that apply at any door. A solicitor cannot use a scheme or ruse suggesting the visit has a purpose other than taking orders or making sales (division C), cannot misrepresent a buyer's right to rescind or cancel (D), cannot cheat or sell goods other than those listed on the license application (F), and cannot shout or use bells or amplifiers (H). These rules sit alongside the license required by § 860.02.
