Berwyn, IL Parking Rules: Snow Removal Parking Rules (2026)

Section 480.05 of the Berwyn Code of Ordinances defines a snow emergency as one the city can declare whenever there is a snow accumulation of 12 inches or more on the ground, dependent upon forecasted weather conditions. The city announces it through a universal communication system or other appropriate methods. A tow away zone is any zone marked by authorized signs where stopping, standing or parking is prohibited at all times, during designated hours or under designated weather conditions.

Snow routes run on lower thresholds and do not wait for a declaration. Under § 480.05(B)(1), fourteen listed streets carry a six-inch trigger, including Cermak Road, East Avenue, Harlem Avenue, Oak Park Avenue, Ogden Avenue, Pershing Road, Ridgeland Avenue, Riverside Drive, Sixteenth Street, Twenty-Sixth Street, the north side of Stanley Avenue and the south side of Windsor Avenue. Roosevelt Road is on a two-inch trigger under (B)(2). On those routes the parking ban lasts until snow removal, from curb to curb, has been completed.

Every other street falls under (B)(3). Once a snow emergency is declared and in effect, parking is banned from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. seven days a week, holidays included, on the even street number side on even numbered days of the month and the odd street number side on odd numbered days. Subsection (C) adds lot rules: the Stanley Avenue and Windsor Avenue Depot lots, the Vacin Fairway lot and the east and west sides of listed avenues near Cermak Road carry 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. bans by odd and even date, and the West and East Library Parking Lots alternate by date from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. when two inches or more are on the ground.

The Director of Public Works and the Superintendent of Police can each have a violating vehicle towed away and authorize the assessment of towing and storage costs against the legal owner or operator (§ 480.05(F)). Ambulances, emergency vehicles of any governmental agency and public utility vehicles on emergency duty are exempt under subsection (G).
