Casper, WY Soliciting & Door-to-Door: No-Knock Registry (2026)

Section 5.38.010(C) defines a prohibition sign as any sign or notice in the English language, of legible size, designed and apparently intended to convey that an unsolicited salesman is unwelcome and should not call on the occupant or tenant of the property. That restriction reaches only itinerant merchants and unsolicited salesmen as the chapter defines those terms, not general visitors, and Section 5.38.010(D) defines residential property broadly to cover homes, apartments, trailers, tents and hotels used as an abode within the city. Section 5.38.050 then lists three unlawful acts: carrying on the trade without the required license under subsection A, entering any residential property posted with a prohibition sign under subsection B, and refusing to leave or continuing to solicit after the occupant or tenant has objected under subsection C.

The chapter's own definition of unsolicited salesman exempts anyone running a business from their own home dealing with their own customers. Casper has no separate city-run do-not-knock registry within this chapter; the posted sign and the occupant's verbal objection are the only mechanisms described. Section 5.38.060 makes a violation of Section 5.38.050 a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of one hundred to seven hundred fifty dollars, with each day of continued violation counted as its own offense.
