Summary
A Davis resident can bar solicitors outright by posting a conspicuous No Solicitation or No Trespassing sign near the entrance. Entering anyway violates the solicitor's own city permit and can get it revoked, and permitted solicitors may only knock between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
No person shall enter or go onto residential property or premises to solicit if there is placed on residential property or premises in a conspicuous position near the entrance thereof a sign bearing the words: "No Solicitation" or "No Trespassing" or any similar notice indicating in any manner that the residents of such premises do not desire to have their privacy disturbed. In addition to any other remedies available under law, any entry on to property, which displays such a sign, shall be in violation of the solicitation permit and subject the permit to revocation in accordance with Section 28.01.140. ... The permit shall only grant the right to solicit during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily. Any violation of the proscribed hours shall result in the revocation of the permit in accordance with Section 28.01.140.

Full Breakdown
050 of the Davis Municipal Code bars any person from entering or going onto residential property to solicit if a conspicuous sign near the entrance reads No Solicitation, No Trespassing, or similar language indicating residents do not want their privacy disturbed. 140, on top of whatever other legal remedies the resident has against the trespasser. 140. 020 separately declares any uninvited entry onto private residential property for soliciting purposes a nuisance in the first place, so a posted sign and the daily hours work together, the sign as an individual household's opt-out and the hours as a blanket citywide curfew on door-to-door activity. 150, giving the police department direct enforcement visibility into repeat violators.
Violations & Fines
Soliciting a posted property or knocking outside 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. triggers immediate suspension of the solicitor's permit and a hearing within two days under Section 28.01.140; a confirmed violation ends in revocation and notice to the chief of police under Section 28.01.150, and a resident retains any other legal remedy available for the trespass itself.
