Hutto, TX Soliciting & Door-to-Door: No-Knock Registry (2026)

Hutto Code of Ordinances § 8.04.034 makes it a violation of the peddlers-and-solicitors article for any peddler or solicitor to conduct or attempt to conduct business at a property where a sign clearly indicates that solicitors or peddlers are unwelcome, giving residents a self-enforcing no-knock tool without any city registry to sign up for. Section 8.04.033(a) layers on a citywide curfew: without a prior invitation or appointment with the occupant, no peddler or solicitor may conduct activities defined in the article before 9:00 a.m. or after 8:00 p.m. on any day, and § 8.04.033(b) bars peddling or soliciting in public streets or medians, or blocking passage on public streets, within the city limits.

Hutto police services investigates complaints and background-checks permit applicants under § 8.04.066, and any peddler or solicitor who enters property and willfully refuses to leave after the owner tells them to go is separately guilty of criminal trespass under the Texas Penal Code, punished under state law rather than the city's general penalty. Distributors of nonprofit handbills, fundraisers for local nonprofits, religious canvassers and persons invited by the occupant are exempt from the underlying permit requirement, but the sign and curfew rules in this article still bind commercial peddlers and solicitors who are not exempt.
