Novi, MI Soliciting & Door-to-Door: No-Knock Registry (2026)

A lawful occupant of any residence, house, apartment or other dwelling may ask the city to place and maintain that address on the Do-Not-Knock Registry by filing a written request on a city clerk form that gives the requester's name, the address, the date, a statement that solicitors and peddlers may not knock, ring the bell or otherwise physically call at the address, and any other information the city needs to verify lawful occupancy (§ 26-12(a)). Removal follows the same written-request format (§ 26-12(c)). A listing lasts until the occupant asks to remove it, the city learns the requester is no longer a lawful occupant, or five calendar years pass from the request, expiring on December 31 of the fifth full year unless re-registered (§ 26-12(b), (d)).

The city clerk must hand a current copy of the registry to every person issued a peddler's license or door-to-door solicitation permit, and the registry stays open for public inspection at the clerk's office during business hours (§ 26-12(e)); the city bears no liability for failing to add or remove an address (§ 26-12(f)). Chapter 26's general hours-and-conduct rule treats a registered address exactly like one posted with a qualifying sign: no peddler or solicitor may enter property that has posted a "No Solicitation," "No Trespassing," "No Peddlers or Agents" or "No Advertisements" notice at least sixteen square inches in size, or whose address is on the Do-Not-Knock Registry at the time (§ 26-10(c)).
