Smyrna, GA Soliciting & Door-to-Door: No-Knock Registry (2026)

Section 74-8 of the Smyrna Code (Ord. No. 2020-11, 10-19-20) is the resident-protection section of the peddlers and solicitors chapter. Subsection (a) makes it unlawful to go on any premises and ring the doorbell, or create any sound calculated to attract the occupant's attention, for the purpose of securing an audience and soliciting, if the occupant has made it clear, by written sign or otherwise, that solicitors are not invited. The chapter creates a sign-based opt-out and no registry list. Subsection (d) sets the hours: soliciting at a door is unlawful, whether the person is licensed or not, before 9:00 a.m. or after 7:30 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays, and before 10:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, or any state and federal holidays.

Soliciting in section 74-1 means seeking orders for goods, wares, merchandise, foodstuffs or services, seeking insurance customers, or seeking subscriptions to publications. Other subsections tighten the rule once someone is at the door. No solicitor can enter a residence unless invited by an individual 18 years of age or older occupying it, and any solicitor who gets inside must depart immediately and peacefully when the occupant asks. Subsection (e) makes it unlawful to solicit from occupants of vehicles, stopped or moving, on any street or at any intersection.

Subsection (f) bars playing music or sound through a loudspeaker or amplifier from a food or goods vehicle between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. The permit exemption in section 74-3(b) for nonprofit, religious, charitable and political solicitors relates to the permit; the hours in subsection (d) attach to soliciting as defined, and the Smyrna Police Department takes the complaints.
