Yuma, AZ Soliciting & Door-to-Door: Solicitor Permits (2026)

Section 70-20(A) makes it unlawful to canvass or solicit at Yuma residences, for orders, sales, subscriptions or any business, without first registering at the City of Yuma's Customer Service Office. Registration requires the solicitor's name, home address and Social Security number, employer information, the type of business and purpose of solicitation, a contact who can locate the solicitor if their address changes, fingerprints and a photograph taken within the prior six months, disclosure of any felony conviction, and a $120 licensing fee. The resulting business license must be carried at all times and printed in bold capital letters stating it is not a city endorsement of the product or service, and must be shown to any police officer or solicited resident on request.

Section 70-20(B) also requires an identification card describing the solicitor's height, weight, hair and eye color, with a photograph, that must be presented immediately when a resident answers the door, along with a statement that the resident need not listen or participate. Section 70-20(F) conditions issuance on a $1,000 surety bond per solicitor, covering refunds for misrepresented goods and damages to anyone misled by a licensed solicitor; a single bond can cover multiple solicitors if sized to match. Section 70-20(G) lets the mayor or the chief of police revoke a registration for violating the subchapter, any other city ordinance, or state or federal law. Section 70-20(H) exempts registered religious or nonprofit charitable solicitation, provided the nonprofit holds federal and state tax-exempt status and otherwise follows the code.
