Jacksonville's Public Works Department Traffic Engineering Division, in cooperation with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, authorizes street closures for block parties on residential streets. A petition of resident support on the affected block is required. Intersections may not be closed.
The City of Jacksonville Traffic Engineering Division, in close cooperation with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO), authorizes the use of roads for block parties and special events. Block parties are permitted on residential streets only. Intersections may not be closed; the closure is limited to the single block between intersections. To obtain a permit, the applicant must submit a petition with support from residents within the block to be closed. The permit application is submitted to the Public Works Department, Traffic Operations division. Events expected to draw more than 500 attendees (including workers, participants, spectators, and all attendees) must be permitted through the Office of Special Events rather than the standard block party process. The applicant is responsible for providing barricades and signage. Emergency vehicle access must be maintained. Alcohol service on closed streets requires a separate Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (ABT) license. Applications should be submitted at least 30 days before the event date.
Blocking a public street without a permit: traffic violation, fine up to $500. Failure to maintain emergency access: event shutdown by JSO.
