Islip, NY Special Events & Permits: Parade Permits (2026)

Section 36-2 states flatly that "no parade, race or assembly shall be permitted upon the highways, streets and/or waterways of the Town of Islip or upon Town of Islip facilities" without a Town Clerk permit obtained after Town Board approval. Section 36-5 requires a fully completed application at least 60 days before the event, or 75 days where attendance is expected to exceed 1,000 people, and the form must disclose the route, start and end times, purpose, participating organizations, any flags or symbols carried, whether speeches will be made, and whether firearms, fireworks, torches or flammable materials will appear in the procession.

Section 36-3 separately requires any street assembly to display an American flag no smaller than 36 by 60 inches for its duration. Section 36-6 sets a nonrefundable $250 application fee for a parade or race: assemblies pay nothing, and parades sponsored by or honoring veterans, or co-sponsored by the Town, are fee-exempt. Filing late adds a scaled penalty: $250 for applications 59 to 30 days out, $500 for 29 to 14 days out, and $1,000 for anything filed fewer than 14 days ahead, plus another $1,000 if the late filing forces a special Town Board meeting; the Board may waive or reduce these for good cause.
