Wyandotte County, KS Special Events & Permits: Parade Permits (2026)

Sec. 32-262 flatly bars anyone from engaging in, participating in, aiding, forming, or starting a parade without first obtaining a parade permit from the chief of police. Sec. 32-263 requires the application at least 30 days before the proposed date, on unified government clerk forms, disclosing the organizer's contact information, the parade marshal, the date, route, assembly points, approximate number of people, animals and vehicles, start and end times, and whether the parade will use the full street width. Sec. 32-264 lists eleven findings the chief must make before issuing the permit, including that the parade will not substantially interrupt traffic, will not divert so many officers that normal police protection suffers, will not interfere with fire or ambulance access, is not held solely to advertise a product or for private profit, and that the applicant has furnished proof that any other jurisdiction whose streets the route crosses has also granted permission.

Sec. 32-265 gives the chief five days to act on the application and requires written notice of denial within ten days, stating the reasons. Sec. 32-266 allows the applicant to appeal a denial to the county administrator within ten days by filing written notice with the unified government clerk, and the administrator may reverse, affirm, or modify the decision. Once issued, Sec. 32-267 requires the chief to notify the board of commissioners, the unified government clerk, and the fire chief, and Sec. 32-268 mandates the permit itself list the permittee, organization, marshal, date, route, hours, and maximum parade length.

Sec. 32-269 obligates the parade marshal to carry and display the permit on request and remain available throughout the parade, and Sec. 32-270 lets the chief revoke a permit by applying the same standards used to grant it. Separately, Sec. 32-234 authorizes the chief of police to restrict parking along the parade route by posted signage.
