Wyandotte County, KS Special Events & Permits: Street Fair Rules (2026)

Section 27-593(30) lets the unified government board of commissioners issue a special use permit for temporary short-term uses, expressly naming trade shows, street fairs, expositions, promotional ventures, and entertainment, on application without the publication, posted notice, or planning commission referral that a standard special use permit requires. To get one, the organizer must submit a written description of the proposed use covering the estimated accumulation of automobiles and persons, the hours of operation, and other effects on the surrounding neighborhood. The permit cannot authorize the event for longer than ten consecutive days, and once the event ends, all materials and equipment must be promptly cleared and the property restored to its normal condition.

The board weighs the requested use's effect on the neighborhood and community before approving it, and can attach conditions covering hours, a surety bond, or other safeguards; the permit may be granted in any zoning district in the county, including Bonner Springs and Edwardsville parcels administered under the unified government's zoning code, and the applicable fee must be paid before the event proceeds. Unlike the county's other 30-plus listed special uses, this temporary-event permit is streamlined precisely because of its short duration.
