Gardena, CA Special Events & Permits: Park Event Permits (2026)

Gardena Municipal Code Section 11.04.020 requires a permit from the Recreation and Human Services director before anyone holds a group picnic, a group activity that needs a specific area, time, or equipment, an athletic game, contest, or tournament session, an event using park buildings, tables, or chairs, an event using special equipment or demonstrations not normally found in a park, a dance, show, or exhibition, or any activity charging admission or taking donations. Section 11.04.040 directs the director to issue the permit once the activity will not unreasonably interfere with public enjoyment of the park, will not burden police operations, will not incite violence or disorderly conduct, and the space is not already reserved for the requested day and hour; sports league or tournament permits also require proof of liability insurance naming the City, its officers, agents, employees, and volunteers as additionally insured.

If the director refuses a permit, Section 11.04.050 requires written reasons within five calendar days, and the applicant can appeal in writing first to the Recreation and Parks Commission and, if refused again, to the City Council, whose decision is final. Section 11.04.090 makes the permittee liable for loss, damage, or injury caused by the negligence of the person to whom the permit issued, and Section 11.04.100 lets the director revoke a permit for any rule violation or for good cause.
