Greenwich, CT Special Events & Permits: Park Event Permits (2026)

Section 7-31, item 1, limits permits to Greenwich inhabitants and requires one for reserving an area of a park for special or private group use, for groups larger than 25 people, for ongoing scientific experiments, for organized recreational, educational or conservation programs, or for relief from the general park regulations such as parking, fires, vehicle use, camping or selling refreshments. Item 7 requires the application to reach the Department of Parks and Recreation at least five full business days before the requested use date, and item 9 requires it to state the applicant's name and address, the sponsor, the requested days and hours, the specific park area, expected attendance, and a description of the activity.

Item 6 lets the Director require a bond of not less than $250, waivable only at the Director's discretion based on prior experience with the applicant, to cover repair costs, litter cleanup, extra personnel and any damage from breaching Town ordinances. Item 10 lists the Director's criteria for issuing a permit: the activity must not interfere with other park users' enjoyment, must not create unusual Town expense, must not conflict with an existing reservation, must not risk damaging the park or causing ordinance violations, and must not be substantially for advertising, profit-making or fund-raising.

Item 3 automatically voids a permit involving a wooded area if the State closes woodlands or the Fire Marshal finds a fire hazard, and item 15 lets the Director revoke a permit immediately for any violation of its terms or the park regulations.
