Greenwich, CT Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Sec. 14-17.4 targets large and commercial-type vehicles specifically in residential zones. It is unlawful to park or leave standing, occupied or not, on any street in a residential zone between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. any vehicle carrying the number-plate types listed in Schedule XXF if it has any one of five characteristics: height over eight feet, length over eighteen feet, width over seven feet, more than four wheels touching the ground, or a gross vehicle or combination weight rating over ten thousand pounds, the standard cutoff for classifying a truck as commercial.

Subsection (b) carves out four exceptions: a vehicle actually performing a service at the nearest residence for no longer than the job takes, a public service company vehicle responding to an emergency, a vehicle mid-delivery, and any vehicle the police have ordered left standing. The Sec. 14-34(b) penalty table fines this specific violation thirty dollars under the line item 'Nighttime truck parking in residential zones (9:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m.).' Separately, Sec. 14-17.2 bars any truck or trailer, including combination, camper, dealer, repairer or temporary-registration vehicles, over eighteen feet long from parking on the streets and lots the Town designates in Schedule XXB at any hour, not just at night, and that broader truck ban carries its own fifty-five dollar fine under the 'Truck parking prohibited' line of the same Sec. 14-34(b) schedule.
