Coconut Creek, FL Special Events & Permits: Street Fair Rules (2026)

Section 16-20 of the Coconut Creek Code governs outdoor special events, including fairs and festivals. It defines promotional events as special events intended to promote a business, occasion or development for a temporary time period, and lists business grand openings, fairs, festivals, block parties, sidewalk sales, carnivals and fund raising events.

For an individual business, organization or institution, no more than three special event permits for promotional events issue per year. An event, including on-property promotion before it, cannot exceed twenty consecutive days, and permits cannot be consecutive: a twenty-day hiatus must separate permit periods. Multi-tenant commercial properties get up to twelve permits per year, twenty consecutive days per event, and no more than 120 days of promotional activity per year on one property. Events in the MainStreet Area follow section 13-362 instead.

Carnivals, meaning rides, games and food vendors, are permitted once a year per privately owned lot, per charity or non-profit organization serving Coconut Creek residents. The property needs an approved plat and site plan that can handle parking, vehicular and pedestrian access and traffic circulation, and the application must show adequacy and compatibility with surrounding land uses.

Vendor sales at an event fall under the seasonal sales rules: permitted only alongside existing businesses in B-2, B-3, B-4 and commercial modules of PUDs, PMDDs or PCDs, with a special events permit, a valid business tax receipt for each vendor, six permits per lot per year, 45 consecutive days per sale, and 90 days total per lot per year. Applications go in at least two weeks ahead, with a $75 fee.

The submittal needs a site plan showing generators, fuel storage, tents, barricades, temporary fences and parking, a written description, the owner's written authorization with dates, proof of state sales tax number and licenses, and insurance naming the city as additional insured. Approval can carry conditions such as restricted hours or police detail, or be withheld if the site cannot safely handle the event. Outdoor sale of fireworks is prohibited.
