Oklahoma Public Pool Fencing Standards

Under 27A O.S. Section 1-3-101 and OAC Title 252 Chapter 410, the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality regulates public and semi-public swimming pools. Rules require minimum 4-foot fencing, self-closing and self-latching gates, depth markers, and safety equipment. These standards apply to apartment complexes, hotels, schools, and other non-private pools statewide. Private residential pools are generally regulated by local building codes adopting the International Residential Code, which Oklahoma has adopted as the minimum building standard under 59 O.S. Section 1000.23. Cities may enact stricter requirements but cannot fall below state minimums.

Public pool violations may result in DEQ closure orders, fines up to $10,000 per violation, and revocation of operating permits.
