Lyon County, NV Swimming Pools & Spas: Fencing & Safety Requirements (2026)

Lyon County Code § 15.335.03(O) governs the Country Club With Golf Course use category inside the county's table of performance-based standards, and an identical rule appears in subsection (BBB) for Swim Club, Tennis Club and Country Club uses. Both require any outdoor swimming pool associated with the club to be protected by a fence at least four feet (4') in height, fitted with a self-closing gate and a positive self-latching mechanism, plus hardware that allows the gate to be permanently locked. The same subsection sets a 100-foot minimum setback between the pool, any accessory building, a lighted tennis court, or other amenity area and adjacent residentially zoned or used property (20 feet under the swim/tennis/country club version on residential-district sites of at least one acre), and requires that lighting for the pool and other amenity areas be designed so it does not spill over onto neighboring property.

Because this fencing mandate is written into the club-use performance standards rather than into the residential zoning districts or the adopted 2024 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code referenced at Chapter 239, it binds golf, swim, tennis and country clubs sited anywhere in unincorporated Lyon County, but the code does not print a parallel fence mandate for a private residential backyard pool.
