Residential pools in Mecklenburg County require a 48-inch barrier with self-closing, self-latching gate under NC Residential Code AG105. Gate latch must be at least 54 inches above ground and gate must open outward away from the pool.
NC Residential Code Appendix G Section AG105 adopts the ICC pool barrier standard. Openings in barrier cannot exceed 4 inches. Chain-link barriers must have mesh no larger than 1.75 inches. Where a house wall forms part of the barrier, all doors leading to the pool must have an alarm (85 dB at 10 ft) or the pool must have a power safety cover. Mecklenburg inspectors verify barrier and gate function before issuing CO. Removal of barrier during ownership is a code violation.
