Under California Health and Safety Code section 115922 (part of the Swimming Pool Safety Act, H&S 115920 et seq.), pools and spas in Mountain View must have at least one of seven approved drowning-prevention safety features, the most common being an enclosure at least 60 inches high that isolates the pool from the home. Gates must open outward from the pool, be self-closing and self-latching, with latches at least 60 inches above the ground. Other approved features include approved safety pool covers, exit alarms on doors, or removable mesh fencing with self-latching gates. Barriers must have no openings larger than 4 inches, and any gaps between the fence and ground must not exceed 2 inches.
