Rancho Cucamonga enforces California Swimming Pool Safety Act barrier rules: minimum 60 inch enclosure with self-closing, self-latching gate, plus at least two additional pool safety features on new residential pools.
California Health and Safety Code section 115920 and following (the Swimming Pool Safety Act) set statewide barrier requirements that Rancho Cucamonga adopts through RCMC Title 15 and the California Building Code. New residential pools and spas deeper than 18 inches must be protected by at least two of seven safety features: an approved isolation fence at least 60 inches high, an approved safety pool cover, removable mesh fencing with self-closing self-latching gate, alarms on doors with direct pool access, self-closing self-latching devices on doors with direct pool access 54 inches above floor, a pool alarm, or other means providing equal or greater protection. The fence must be non-climbable with vertical pickets spaced no more than 4 inches apart and a maximum 2 inch gap at the bottom. Gates must swing away from the pool, self-close, and self-latch with the latch at least 54 inches above grade. Existing pools at time of sale must meet the two-feature rule before escrow closes.
