Tracy enforces California's Swimming Pool Safety Act (CA H&S Code Β§115920). A 60-inch minimum barrier is required around all private pools over 18 inches deep. Pools or spas built or remodeled after January 1, 2018 must have a second safety feature.
Tracy Code Enforcement and Building Safety enforce CA H&S Code Β§115920 for all private swimming pools. The minimum barrier height is 60 inches measured from the exterior. Gates must open outward away from the pool and be self-closing and self-latching, with the latch at least 60 inches off the ground. Fence openings must not allow a 4-inch diameter sphere to pass through, and no handholds or footholds that allow climbing are permitted. For pools and spas built or remodeled after January 1, 2018, a second safety feature is required from a list that includes removable mesh fences meeting ASTM F2286, pool alarms, approved safety covers, and exit door alarms on doors accessing the pool area. Building permits are required for pool construction.
Non-compliant pool fencing: building code violation, stop-use order. Required correction before pool may be used.
