The City of Lakeville's Building Inspections Department issues swimming pool permits under the Zoning Ordinance (Section 11-21-5.G). A Swimming Pool Permit application is required for all pools having a depth of 24 inches at any point and a surface area exceeding 150 square feet (roughly a 14-foot diameter). The application must include a certificate of survey accurately showing lot dimensions, existing structures, the location and size of the pool, the setback from property lines, the location and height of the required enclosing fence, the location of self-closing lockable gates, and pool equipment locations. The city does not provide survey service to find property irons; the landowner must locate the property lines before erecting a pool. A separate zoning permit is required for the pool fence, a separate mechanical permit for installing a heater, a separate building permit for a deck, and a separate electrical permit must be obtained from the City of Lakeville Inspections Department.
