Bonita Springs, FL Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Section 10-101 is part of division 3, the Bonita Springs Property Maintenance Code in chapter 10, and subsection (a) is a two-sided timing rule. A container cannot be moved to the street more than 24 hours prior to scheduled curbside collection, and it cannot remain there more than 24 hours after the scheduled collection. The window is measured from the collection the city or its hauler has scheduled, so the owner works from the actual pickup day, not from a fixed calendar day printed in the code.

The rule is written for refuse containers in general and does not limit itself to a single housing type. Subsection (b) handles the other case: a container that cannot be moved to the street under subsection (a) must be opaquely screened from view from streets and adjoining properties.

Other sections of the same division back the rule up. Under § 10-96(b)(8), excessive or untended accumulations of debris or trash, including scattered trash and litter that remains on site for longer than 24 hours, are a public nuisance on residential property. Section 10-92 states that these maintenance standards supplement the Land Development Code and other city ordinances, and § 10-92(c) lets code enforcement cite the owner or a tenant or other person who controls the property.

The code volume reviewed does not print collection days or routes. Chapter 32, Solid Waste, carries an editor's note that the solid waste provisions are not included and are on file in the city clerk's office. Section 32-57 describes collection as handled by franchise contractors under a solid waste franchise collection contract with the county for service within the county and the city, so the pickup day for an address comes from that hauler.
