Trash, recycling, and organics carts in Galt must be placed at the curb with wheels against the gutter, lids closed, and at least 3 feet of clearance between carts. Carts cannot obstruct sidewalks, bike lanes, fire hydrants, or mailboxes.
Galt Municipal Code Title 8 requires residents to place carts at the curb in a manner that does not obstruct pedestrian, bicycle, or vehicle traffic. Carts must be set with the hinge side facing away from the street so the automated truck arm can grab them. Minimum 3 feet of clearance is required between carts and 3 feet from parked vehicles, mailboxes, fire hydrants, and utility poles. Carts cannot be placed on the sidewalk itself if it obstructs pedestrian passage or ADA access. On collection day carts must remain in the gutter or the edge of the street where legal. Outside collection days carts must be stored out of public view from the street, typically in a side yard, rear yard, or behind a screening fence or landscape feature per GMC property maintenance standards.
Code enforcement may issue a warning followed by administrative citation under GMC Chapter 1.16, typically 100 dollars for a first citation.
