Citrus Heights requires refuse, recycling, and organics carts to be placed at the curb no earlier than 6:00 PM the night before collection and removed from public view by the end of the collection day. Carts must be stored out of front-yard view on non-collection days.
Under Citrus Heights Municipal Code Chapter 50 and the property maintenance provisions of the Zoning Code, waste and recycling carts must be stored behind the front of the home or screened from the public right-of-way on non-collection days. On collection days, carts must be placed curbside at the edge of the pavement (not on the sidewalk), with wheels facing the residence, lids closed, and at least 3 feet of clearance from mailboxes, vehicles, and other carts to allow automated truck arms to service them. Carts may be placed out no earlier than 6:00 PM the day before collection and must be returned to their storage location by 11:59 PM on the day of collection. Repeated violations are handled as property maintenance nuisances.
Improper bin storage may be cited as a property maintenance violation with administrative fines escalating from warning to $100-$500 per occurrence.
