Republic Services holds the exclusive residential franchise and provides three-cart weekly collection: a gray cart for landfill trash, a blue cart for recyclables, and a green cart for organics and yard waste (to comply with SB 1383). Customers choose cart sizes (35, 65, or 95 gallons) with rates approved by the City Council. Carts must be placed at the curb with lids closed, wheels toward the house, at least 3 feet from other objects, by 6:00 AM on collection day and removed within 24 hours after pickup. Self-haul to a licensed transfer station is allowed only with a city-issued exemption; unauthorized haulers are prohibited.
Service is mandatory; non-subscription and illegal hauling can result in citations. Cart violations typically receive warning notices followed by administrative fines.
