Folsom residents must place trash, recycling, and organics carts at the curb no earlier than 6:00 PM the day before collection and remove them by the end of collection day. Carts must maintain 3 feet of clearance and wheels facing the curb, with lids fully closed.
Under Folsom Municipal Code Β§8.10 and Republic Services' operating standards, carts must be staged at the curb with the cart handle facing the house and wheels to the curb so the automated collection arm can grip them. A minimum of 3 feet of space is required between carts and between carts and obstacles (parked cars, mailboxes, trees, utility poles). Carts cannot be placed in the street, on sidewalks that obstruct pedestrian travel, or in bike lanes. Carts must be stored out of public view from the street when not at the curb (typically in the side yard or garage) per the city's property maintenance standards. Overfilled carts with lids propped open will not be collected. Bagged overflow is not serviced at the curb without extra-pickup arrangement.
Carts left at the curb longer than permitted can result in a property maintenance notice. Repeated violations may incur administrative citations under FMC Chapter 1.24.
