Omaha, NE Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Omaha's Article X on solid waste containers bars putting bags or containers for trash, garbage, or recyclables on the public right-of-way except during the defined "collection period": starting at 5:00 p.m. the evening before your scheduled pickup day and ending at 10:00 a.m. the day after (extended to 7:00 p.m. that day if collection is delayed by weather). Outside that window, containers must sit behind the street-facing wall of the house, or elsewhere on the lot if screened by a permitted fence or screening structure. A city right-of-way lease can authorize a private hauler's container to stay curbside outside the collection period, but only with legally permitted screening. Violating the placement rules is declared a public nuisance and can draw a notice to abate on top of fines.
