Omaha, NE Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Under OMC § 33-44, yard waste set out for city or contractor collection must go in durable paper bags (50-lb wet strength, 30-gallon capacity) closed without plastic or metal ties. Bags need a supplemental yard waste collection sticker proving the excess-yard-waste fee was paid. The public works director sets aside four to six weeks each spring and an additional four to six weeks each fall when the city collects bagged yard waste without requiring a sticker. Households can also exceed the standard 192-gallon (or 384-gallon multi-unit) cart limit by using these paper bags per § 33-46(b)(1). "Yard wastes" is defined in § 33-49(d) as grass or shrubbery cuttings, leaves, and other organic material from lawn and garden care, including tree branches two inches or less in diameter.
