Summary

Boise residents must schedule bulky item pickup with the city's franchise hauler rather than setting items at the curb unannounced.

Bulky Waste Collection: Bulky wastes shall be collected and hauled by the City's franchise hauler. Customers are responsible for contacting the franchise hauler to schedule the pick-up. The customer shall convey the waste to the regular collection location. The Public Works Department may set limits on the number of items that may be collected from a household.

F.   Seasonal Or Special Collections: The City may establish special dates for the collection of trash in personal cans twenty (20) to thirty-two (32) gallons without extra fees or overflow stickers.

G.   On-Call Dumpster Service or Temporary Project-Specific Container Service: This service does not replace regular solid waste service for the property. Trash that is routinely generated at a residential property is not permitted on-call dumpsters or temporary, project-specific containers.

H.   Curbside Glass Collection: Customers may subscribe to a curbside glass collection service and have their glass collected and hauled by the City's franchise hauler. Customers are responsible for subscribing to the voluntary service. Glass collection will use specially marked wheeled carts provided by the franchise hauler and will be collected at least one (1) time every four (4) weeks. (Ord. 21-17, 5-23-2017; amd. Full Breakdown

Bulky waste, items too large for a cart or dumpster like furniture and appliances, is collected only after the customer contacts the city's franchise hauler to schedule a pickup and moves the items to the regular collection location. The Public Works Department can cap how many bulky items a household gets collected. Appliances need doors removed or secured and must be emptied of food waste, with an extra fee possible for full freezers or refrigerators.

Violations & Fines

Bulky items set out without scheduling a hauler pickup are not collected and can be cited as a nuisance or improper waste disposal under the solid waste chapter.
