Summary

Large or bulky items too big for regular containers must be set out separately and are collected only through a paid special pickup arranged with the solid waste division.

Large amounts of dirt, lawn rakings, plant waste, residential rubbish, concrete, metal, or bulky objects too large to place in containers must be separated by the owner and may be collected by the city for a fee as a special pickup. Contractors, builders, remodelers, landscapers, nurserymen, or other tradesmen are responsible for waste resulting from their business activities. They may not use a customer's nor their own residential water bill to dispose of waste at the landfill or transfer station. (Ord. No. 3916, § 2, 3-28-11)

Full Breakdown

Cheyenne City Code 8.44.040(H) requires large amounts of dirt, lawn rakings, plant waste, residential rubbish, concrete, metal, or bulky objects too large for containers to be separated by the owner; the city collects them for a fee as a special pickup. Limbs, tree trimmings and hedge clippings get separate treatment under 8.44.040(D): they're picked up for a fee only if cut to 4 feet or less and bundled no more than 2 feet thick, unless the resident pays for the optional yard waste container, which makes that pickup free. Contractors and tradesmen can't bill their own or a customer's residential water account to dump business-generated waste.

Violations & Fines

Violating chapter 8.44 is a misdemeanor under Cheyenne City Code 1.24.010, punishable by a fine of up to $750 and costs, or up to 6 months imprisonment, with each day a separate offense.
