Georgetown residents get four free curbside bulky-waste pickups per year through Texas Disposal Systems for items too large for the cart, such as furniture, mattresses, toilets, washers, and dryers. Pickups must be scheduled in advance by calling TDS, and items go out by 7 a.m. on the regular trash day.
The City of Georgetown provides four free curbside bulky-waste pickups per year per residential account through Texas Disposal Systems. Bulky waste covers materials that will not fit inside the cart, such as furniture, mattresses, toilets, washers, and dryers. Refrigerated appliances are accepted but incur an additional fee because of refrigerant-handling requirements. Pickups must be reserved in advance: residents call TDS at 512-930-1715 to schedule, and TDS will not collect bulky items without a prior reservation. As of a change effective Feb. 6, 2023, bulky-waste pickups are no longer collected on Saturdays but instead coincide with each property's regular trash collection day. Items must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on the collection day and should not be set out more than 24 hours before pickup. Because bulky waste is a city service rather than a detailed ordinance, the exact accepted-item and fee details should be confirmed with TDS. Leaving bulky items at the curb without a scheduled pickup, or dumping them on a lot or right-of-way, falls under the nuisance prohibition in Sec. 8.20.080 and, for larger quantities, state illegal-dumping law.
Unscheduled bulky items are not collected and, if left out, can be cited as a refuse nuisance under Sec. 8.20.080. Dumping bulky waste on property or in the right-of-way may also be prosecuted under Tex. Health & Safety Code Sec. 365.012, where penalties scale with weight and volume.
