Lakewood, NJ Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Township Code § 21-3(n) authorizes the Department of Public Works to establish collection schedules for "garbage, trash, bulky waste and recyclables" and then sets the actual set-out window for bulk items: they "may not be placed at curbside for pickup earlier than the Saturday or Sunday before the scheduled pickup," and must be "neatly set at curbside." The section limits eligibility to household waste only, requiring that "all items scheduled for bulk pickup must be generated by or from the residences at which the bulk pickup is located," and it draws a hard line against construction debris: "No construction or demolition materials will be picked up." A separate exception in § 21-3.1 confirms the chapter does not apply to tree surgeons, gardeners removing trade debris, or building and plumbing contractors removing construction debris, unless that debris is handled by a private refuse collector, in which case Chapter 21's rules apply to that collector.

Contractors and developers generating construction or demolition debris instead fall under the Debris Recovery Plan in § 21-8, which requires a plan filed with the Municipal Recycling Coordinator before work begins and documented diversion of at least 50% of the debris generated, reviewed by the Township Construction Official.
