San Bernardino residents get several free bulky pickups each year for furniture, mattresses, appliances, and e-waste by appointment. Illegal dumping on streets or lots is a misdemeanor under Municipal Code 8.30.
The Integrated Waste Management Division offers on-call bulky item pickup for single-family customers, typically up to four appointments per year with each appointment allowing several large items. Acceptable items include mattresses and box springs, couches, chairs, tables, dressers, water heaters, stoves, washers and dryers, refrigerators (CFC removal included), televisions and monitors, and computer electronics. Excluded items include tires, construction debris, paint, used motor oil, chemicals, propane tanks, and medical sharps, which must go to the San Bernardino County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility or authorized e-waste drop-off sites. Residents schedule pickups through the city waste portal or by calling Integrated Waste at (909) 384-5335 at least 48 hours in advance. Items must be placed at the curb by 6:00 AM on the scheduled day and may not be placed out more than 24 hours in advance. Items placed out without an appointment are considered illegal dumping under Municipal Code Chapter 8.30 and Penal Code 374.3, carrying citations up to 1,000 dollars for a first offense and misdemeanor prosecution for repeat or commercial dumping. The city operates surveillance cameras at chronic dumping hot spots, and tips can be reported through the San Bernardino Connect app or at (909) 384-5122.
