Arvada, CO Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 90-33 establishes Arvada's default residential collection scheme. Subsection (a) requires the city's designated residential waste collection service provider to furnish service to all residents within the city except those specifically excluded from the program, and subsection (b) makes the city or its provider responsible for supplying the waste and recycling containers themselves rather than residents buying their own. Subsection (c) fixes where and when carts go out: waste and recyclable materials must be placed in the containers by the owner, tenant or occupant, set in the street or alley adjacent to the residence on the schedule the city establishes, or on the street directly in front of the residence if there is no adjacent alley.

Exclusions from the mandatory program are narrow: § 90-36(1) exempts commercial and industrial establishments and multifamily buildings with eight or more units, and § 90-36(2) exempts homeowners' association properties that had an active hauler contract as of December 31, 2020, though those HOA properties still owe the City Program fee under § 90-35(c) and must keep proof of an active third-party contract on file with the city. Every participating resident pays for the service through the utility bill under § 90-35(a); the fee is billed regardless of whether the resident actually uses city collection, and only the water portion of utility service is shielded from disconnection over an unpaid waste bill.
