Blue Hill, NE Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Blue Hill Municipal Code § 7-503(A) makes contracted collection mandatory citywide: all residents must have their garbage, trash and waste collected by the disposal collection company with which the city contracts for service. The contract itself must be approved by the mayor and City Council, and collection fees set under that agreement are billed with each resident's monthly utility statement under § 7-104, not paid to the contractor directly. Under § 7-503(B), the contractor is required to collect, remove and dispose of all non-hazardous refuse, rubbish, garbage and junk once every week from every residence, church, and government or commercial building within the corporate limits, though yard waste, lead-acid batteries, waste oil, tires and appliances are carved out of that weekly run and must be handled separately.

The contractor supplies the collection containers themselves, name-brand 96-gallon receptacles, and must file a written schedule of its collection routes and the day of the week assigned to each route with the city clerk, so residents can confirm which day their block is served. Because service is mandatory rather than opt-in, § 7-504 makes the owner or occupant of every served premises liable for the collection charge unless they can show the premises was unoccupied during the billing period or that the waste generated there was independently hauled to a permitted facility.
