Canyon County, ID Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Canyon County Code § 02-03-08, Mandatory Solid Waste Disposal, states that to maintain public health, safety, and aesthetics, all persons in unincorporated Canyon County must use one or all of three listed disposal methods. First, residents may utilize solid waste collection services where such service is available, and they must pay for that service; this is the county's default expectation wherever a hauler serves the area. Second, residents may haul solid waste themselves to a permitted municipal solid waste disposal site, such as the county's own Pickles Butte landfill designated under § 02-03-01, in a reasonable time and manner.

Third, residents may burn solid waste, but only under a valid permit issued by the authority with jurisdiction and only in accordance with the open-burning limits in § 02-03-13(4), which bans burning household garbage, tires, plastics, treated lumber, and similar toxic-smoke materials outright and restricts allowed open burning (yard waste, recreational fires, orchard clippings) to the property where the waste was generated. Section 02-03-13(2) separately makes it unlawful to let solid waste accumulate in a yard, lot, or adjacent street, alley, or sidewalk, reinforcing that mandatory disposal, not on-site accumulation, is the rule.

Compost piles maintained for fertilization purposes are expressly allowed. This mandatory-service requirement governs unincorporated Canyon County only; residents of Caldwell, Nampa, Middleton, Greenleaf, Melba, Notus, Wilder, Parma, and Star arrange trash service under their own city's separate solid waste ordinance.
