Milpitas, CA Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Milpitas Municipal Code Section V-200-3.20(a) makes collection service compulsory: the owner, agent or occupant of any premises must subscribe to and pay for solid waste, recyclable materials and organic materials collection rendered by the City's authorized contractor, and must maintain containers as required by the chapter. Subsection (b) lets the City automatically enroll single-family residential customers or commercial businesses. Section V-200-4.10 backs this up on the collection side: no person other than the authorized contractor may collect, remove, transport, process or dispose of waste generated on any premises in the City.

For curbside customers, Section V-200-4.20 requires carts to be placed in the street with wheels against the curb, two feet from parked cars and mailboxes, in front of the premises generating the waste; a generator who fails to return containers to their approved storage spot in a timely manner may be cited. Section V-200-3.40 sets a weekly floor: no more than one week's accumulation of putrescible solid waste or organic materials may be kept on any premises, and it must be disposed of at least once a week.

If the contractor fails to collect a properly placed container at the scheduled time, Section V-200-7.40 requires it to collect the missed material by the end of the next business day after a customer's demand or notice. Section V-200-6.11 gives residential customers 62 or older who pay the dwelling's water bill a reduced curbside rate, verified with a driver's license or birth certificate plus proof of residency. Containers otherwise must stay out of street view except in the 12-hour window around a scheduled collection day per Section V-200-3.31.
