Section 26-12 sets the town's baseline: containers must be serviced a minimum of once per week. That single sentence governs every account on the system, from single-family rollout carts to the dumpster-type containers commercial and industrial customers use under section 26-2. The town splits billing into two classes under section 26-15: smaller accounts pay under class 1, while commercial, industrial and multifamily properties of six units or more that use dumpster-type containers fall under class 2 and, if they run six or more units, must supply their own appropriately sized metal containers at their own expense.

Sanitation fees for both classes are set by resolution at a duly called council meeting rather than fixed dollar amounts in the code, and section 26-19 lets the council negotiate a separate garbage fee with any industry or business in town. Service is not optional: section 26-18 makes clear that anyone who does not use the town's water and sewer service but still receives garbage pickup owes the fee just the same as a water and sewer customer, and section 26-17 backs that up with real teeth, authorizing the public works director to cut off water service for nonpayment of the garbage fee in the same manner as an unpaid water bill. Special or unusual waste that needs extra handling draws its own monthly surcharge under section 26-3, on top of the standard weekly service fee.
