York County, VA Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 19-63(a) establishes county collection as the baseline service for every single-family detached residence whose owner or occupant agrees to receive it, excluding homes on federal property; the county may, at its discretion, extend the same service to other households, qualified small businesses, and federal-property households. The County Administrator is separately authorized under Section 19-63(b) to issue rules for running the collection system day to day. The actual pickup rhythm is fixed in Section 19-66(b): solid waste goes out once a week and recycling every other week, with the exact dates and times announced by the County Administrator and adjusted around holidays and severe weather.

The county tries to run the recycling truck on the same day as the trash truck whenever the schedules allow it. Households that sign up pay through the fee schedule in Section 19-73, which lists $72.00 bi-monthly for combined curbside garbage and recycling, $55.00 for garbage-only service, and $32.00 for recycling-only service, with a reduced $37.00 or $55.00 rate for qualifying seniors and low-income households under Section 19-78. Bills become delinquent 30 days after the statement date, at which point a 10 percent or $10 late charge, whichever is greater, and 6 percent annual interest apply, and the county may cut off collection service to a property that stays unpaid, per Section 19-75.
