York County, VA Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

The Board of Supervisors regulates yard waste in York County, Virginia through Chapter 19, Article V of the county code, administered by the Waste Management Division. Under Sec. 19-67(b), special yard waste collection covers limbs, tree trunks, and bulky organic debris too large for weekly curbside pickup; the code caps piece size at 8 inches in diameter and 10 feet in length for the county's paid pickup service. Program customers, meaning households and qualified small businesses already receiving county solid waste service, pay $25 per special collection, while non-customers pay $75.

Both groups are limited to two special collections every 30 days at the standard rate, and a household requesting additional pickups inside that same 30-day window pays $100 for each extra visit. Residents are not limited to the paid pickup option: Sec. 19-67(b)(2) lets any York County household haul its own yard waste, including tree trunks or limbs up to 24 inches in diameter and 10 feet long, to the VPPSA facility at no charge. Routine curbside yard waste still has to go inside a county-issued container; Sec.

19-66(c) bars loose bags or bundles of yard waste from being set out beside the container, and Sec. 19-70(c) requires yard waste to be bagged before it counts toward collection. Sec. 19-64(c) also caps every container at 240 pounds when full. Requests for a special yard waste pickup must be scheduled in advance by calling the county under the collection schedule the County Administrator publishes.
