De Pere, WI Trash & Recycling: Dumpster Rules (2026)

Section 54-13 of the De Pere Code of Ordinances defines a portable storage pod, container or dumpster as any weather-resistant box larger than 385 cubic feet, roughly seven feet by seven feet by eight feet, used to hold household goods, wares, building material or similar items. The section splits the rule in two. Portable storage containers used for moving or general storage are capped at one per property at any given time, may stay no more than 30 days unless the building inspector grants a written extension, and cannot exceed eight feet in width, 20 feet in length, or eight feet in height.

They must sit on a hard surface such as concrete, asphalt, or brick pavers, and can never be placed on the street, in the city right-of-way, on a sidewalk, or anywhere they create a vision hazard for traffic. Construction and demolition dumpsters are treated separately under subsection (c): they may remain on-site only for the duration of an active building or alteration project, and once that project wraps up, the dumpster must be hauled away within 30 days. The building inspector, who administers permits under chapter 54, is the official who can grant the 30-day extension for a storage pod and who fields complaints about improperly placed containers blocking sight lines at driveways or intersections.
