De Pere, WI Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

De Pere's Code of Ordinances chapter 82 governs how brush, refuse and yard waste must be prepared for city pickup. Under § 82-5(a), the Board of Public Works determines when brush, refuse and yard waste is collected; it does not go out on the fixed weekly cart schedule used for garbage. When collection is scheduled, § 82-5(b) requires brush to be stacked in rows parallel to the curb, kept clear of the street, gutters and sidewalk, and, where no sidewalk exists, placed within four feet of the curb line.

Bulk refuse must be set at curbside arranged for the easiest possible truck loading, and it must be free of jagged edges, protruding nails or screws. Yard waste goes in neat piles within six feet of the curb so it does not block the flow of water through the gutters or obstruct the sidewalk or street. Large or hazardous items the city will not collect at all, such as televisions, electronics, propane tanks, waste tires and vehicle batteries under § 82-6, must go to the Brown County household hazardous waste facility on South Broadway in Ashwaubenon or the county transfer station on West Mason Street.

Residents may also use a city-designated drop-off site under § 82-11, but only residents may use it, commercial rubbish is barred, bags and reusable containers cannot be left there, and the department of public works sets and publishes the hours. If an owner, occupant or lessee refuses to remove accumulated solid waste after being ordered to do so by the city health officer, § 82-9(a) makes that person liable for the chapter's penalty, and the city may collect the waste itself and assess the cost against the property. Section 82-10 backs the whole chapter with a forfeiture collected by municipal citation, with each 24-hour period of noncompliance treated as a separate offense.
