Arcadia, CA Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

The holiday rule sits in Section 5120.9 of the Arcadia Municipal Code, the hours of operation section. Collection of residential solid waste, organic waste and recyclables is confined to Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The one built-in shift is Saturday: collections can be made on Saturday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. if a holiday occurs within the preceding six days. That lets the hauler absorb a missed weekday route without running into Sunday.

The section does not print a holiday list or name the day a route slides to. It sets the outer limits and leaves the route schedule to the City's contract hauler. Residents should expect the shift to land no later than Saturday, 5:00 p.m., in a week that follows a holiday.

Commercial customers are treated differently. Section 5120.9 confines commercial collection to Sunday through Saturday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., except that collection in certain defined geographical locations or areas can start at earlier hours as specified by Council resolution. Section 5120.1.2 separately provides for daily collection from any hotel, restaurant or other place of business with Sundays and holidays excepted.

The City Manager holds a temporary override. If in the Manager's judgment conditions warrant a departure from the normal days and hours, the Manager can authorize collection of solid waste, organic waste or recyclables on days and during hours the Manager considers appropriate for a period not to exceed two weeks. That covers disruptions such as a storm or a hauler emergency, and it expires after the two weeks unless the Council changes the rule.

Because weekly service is mandatory under Section 5120.1.1, a holiday delay does not cancel collection. The material stays subject to the set-out rules: containers go on the parkway no earlier than twenty-four hours before the scheduled collection under Section 5120.5.1 and come in by 5 a.m. the day after collection under Section 5120.5.2.
