Hudson, NH Trash & Recycling: Illegal Dumping (2026)

Hudson's landfill facility on West Road is the only legal dump site in town under § 245-1, and Article II of Chapter 245 specifically bars dumping rubbish anywhere on the grounds except the main dumping area (§ 245-7) or on the access roadways serving the upper and lower sides of the facility (§ 245-8). A separate, older set of restrictions in Article I limits use to Hudson residents and taxpayers depositing only material that originated in town, requires trash to be enclosed during transport, and bans unpermitted "dump picking" through material already there without a permit from the Board of Selectmen under § 245-3; violating those Article I rules is fined $50 for a first offense and $100 for each one after, under § 245-6.

The facility's Attendant can enforce all of this directly under § 245-16, refusing entry to anyone abusing the site or violating either article, and may reject material believed to originate outside Hudson at his own discretion. Commercial haulers face an entirely separate sticker, permit and per-yard fee system under Article III. Town Meeting also took up dumping directly: a 1975 warrant article, still printed in Chapter 226, specifically prohibits dumping any form of asbestos waste anywhere in Hudson, underscoring that the ban on out-of-place dumping reaches beyond the landfill grounds themselves. Together these provisions give Hudson residents a narrow, clearly bounded area to dump legally and a real cost for missing it.
