Hudson's curbside recycling program, adopted by the Town Council in 1990 as Ordinance No. O90-2, works alongside the town's regular trash pickup: § 266-1 describes residents placing recyclables at curbside, in designated containers, together with their normal trash, for collection on whatever day is designated for the section of town where they live, meaning pickup day varies by neighborhood rather than running on one town-wide schedule. The ordinance exists specifically because, as § 266-1 recites, people had been taking recyclable items left out for collection, which undercuts the town's ability to run the program successfully.

Section 266-2 responds directly: from the moment recyclables are placed at a resident's curb, it is unlawful for anyone other than the authorized collector to collect, remove or dispose of them, and each act of scavenging at each residence is its own separate offense. Residents who prefer to haul trash themselves rather than wait for curbside pickup have that separate option at the Hudson Landfill Facility on West Road, but self-hauled material must come from within Hudson and be enclosed during transport under Chapter 245's Article I rules, which carry their own $50/$100 fine schedule; the curbside recycling penalty in § 266-3 is calibrated instead to punish outsiders raiding the recycling bins that residents already set out.
