Solid waste collection in Galt is provided through a franchise agreement with a single exclusive hauler. Carts must be placed at the curb by 6 AM on the scheduled collection day and removed by the end of the collection day or within 12 hours after pickup. Containers may not be placed curbside more than 24 hours before collection. Residents receive three carts: gray for landfill waste, blue for recycling, and green for organics and yard waste. Cart lids must close fully; overflowing carts may be refused service or incur an overage fee. The city prohibits self-hauling of residential solid waste to landfills in competition with the franchised hauler under Galt Municipal Code Title 8, Chapter 8.08.
First notice is typically a warning. Subsequent violations may result in administrative citations under Galt Municipal Code Chapter 1.16 with fines starting at 100 dollars.
